As a working parent, I'd become increasingly aware of something that's hard to unsee once you start noticing it: the connection between what we eat and how we feel. Not just physically, but mentally. And not just for me — for my family. For my children. The more I learned, the more I wanted to do something about it. Not just read about it. Actually do something.
So I built an app. For us. For our kitchen, our weekly shop, our habits.
Then it proved its worth almost immediately.
A few days later, in London for work, I walked into a Waitrose and reached for the same sandwich I'd bought a hundred times without thinking. This time, I scanned it first. The score stopped me in my tracks. I picked up a few alternatives. Scanned those too. The best one went in the bag.
Standing in that aisle, it hit me: this isn't just useful for me.
Anyone could use this. Every family navigating a supermarket, every parent trying to do right by their kids, every person who's ever picked up a product and wondered — but what's actually in this? They all deserve a straight answer.
That was the moment NYAM became more than a personal project. NYAM App Ltd was founded — my first ever business — with one mission: give people the information they need to eat better, without needing a nutrition degree to understand it.
From scanning a single barcode in the cereal aisle, to reviewing your full basket before confirming the order, to analysing an entire week's shopping in seconds — NYAM is built to make that information simple, honest, and yours.
